25th anniversary celebrations of the Arapuerca Foundation begin

It is an honor for Carbonell Figueras to participate in the board of trustees of the Atapuerca Foundation. It means supporting science in our country and world-leading researchers in their field. We are very excited to be, modestly, part of the project.

One of the co-directors of the sites declared a World Heritage Site, Eudald Carbonell, says he has “everything ready” to reach level 6 of Gran Dolina, where remains of Homo antecessor were found, a hominid from 800,000 years ago only described at Atapuerca and considered to be the first genuinely European human species to date.

In addition, at the Sima del Elefante the researchers will work on a level from 1.4 million years ago, where part of the face of a hominid they called Pink appeared during the last campaign and which is, so far, the “face of the first European”.

Contributing to the knowledge of our past allows us to learn from it and can also give us valuable clues on how to contribute to building our future.
